About Wedding Abroad Rules

A plain-English tracker of legal marriage requirements for couples marrying away from home.

What this is

Wedding Abroad Rules tracks whether visiting couples can legally marry in 34 popular destination-wedding spots, and what it takes: residency or waiting time, documents, apostilles and translations, blood tests, witnesses, who officiates, same-sex status, recognition at home and the government fee.

How we check

Facts come from official sources: U.S. embassy marriage pages, civil registries, ministries, courts and the UK government's travel advice. Each fact carries a badge: Official ✓ (read on an official page), Snippet / semi-official (official text seen in a search result because the page blocked our checker, or a tourism-authority page), or Not confirmed. We don't guess: anything we couldn't confirm says "Not confirmed, check with the registry or embassy". All destinations were last checked on 2026-10-21.

Disclaimer

Not legal advice; confirm with the registry or embassy. We are an independent site, not affiliated with any government. Marriage rules, fees and document requirements change, and local offices interpret them differently. Always confirm with the civil registry, the officiant or your embassy before you book or pay.
